Therapeutic Approach

Asset 14.png

I'm a clinical psychologist in private practice with a special focus on the treatment of depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, and autism spectrum disorders using cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and neuropsychoanalysis. I am also proficient in psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT).

I am trained to work with a wide-range of psychosocial issues and psychological disorders using insight-oriented, systemic, transactional analytic and cognitive-behavioural approaches. Although my therapeutic work is principally with adults and adolescents, I offer therapeutic interventions to children and geriatrics, and practice individual, couples, family and group psychotherapy.

Consulting

I serve as a consultant clinical psychologist for multiple hospitals in Gauteng, providing psychodiagnostic and therapeutic services for individuals experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms and substance use disorders, including individual and group therapy for inpatients and facilitation of psycho-educational family sessions on anxiety, depression, bipolar and addiction. Additionally, I offer specialist neuropsychological- and psychosocial transplant assessment services to all affiliated hospitals.

Neuropsychology

I am a member of the International Neuropsychoanalysis Society and an associate member of SACNA. I provide neuropsychological assessment services, aligned with local and international best-practice standards, to assess functional neurological disorders, psychiatric conditions and traumatic-brain injuries.

If you're concerned that a recent illness, injury, or age-related changes may be affecting your thinking, memory, or emotional regulation, a neuropsychological assessment may provide valuable insights and recommendations.

Neuropsychology is a specialised field of psychology that bridges the gap between the brain and behaviour. Using comprehensive neuropsychological assessment, I evaluate cognitive functioning and determine whether any changes have occurred that may be attributable to underlying neurological processes.

Neuropsychological assessments may assist in:

i) Obtaining a more accurate diagnosis by differentiating between cognitive changes stemming from brain function (organic) and those resulting from emotional or psychological factors (functional). Often, a complex interplay of both is present.

ii) Supportive case management – understanding the root cause of these changes empowers you and your support system to develop effective coping strategies and optimise your cognitive function as much as is possible.

You may benefit from neuropsychological assessment if you have:
•  Experienced a brain injury (accidents, concussions)
•  Suffered a stroke
•  Concerns about an illness potentially affecting the brain
•  Possible dementia
•  Unexplained memory or concentration difficulties
•  Changes in problem-solving or information processing
•  Unexplained difficulty with language (speaking, reading, writing, comprehension)

•  Struggles with work or academic demands
•  Received a diagnosis for a psychiatric condition that could affect your cognitive functioning such as ADHD, autism etc.
